Falakro Ski Resort
The Falakro Ski Resort is situated on Falakro Mountain, which is the characteristic "landmark" of Drama. The lack of trees and vegetation in the wider area on the lower slopes of the mountain is complete justification for its name (falakros = bald) and it offers an unsurpassed skiing experience.
The rock composition of Falakro Mountain (limestone) and the enclosed basin of Kato Nevrokopi, which is situated to the north, facilitates the absorption of rain water and overflow from streams. These waters create a long, winding, karstic conduit, which forms the cave.
Elatia Forest (or Kara Dere)
The Elatia Forest (KARA-DERE) in the Prefecture of Drama, 70 km from the town, is considered by UNESCO to be one of the richest areas of forestland in the whole of Europe. 60% of Europe's species of flora can be found in the Elatia Forest and it is a refuge for 211 rare or endangered species.
